To end our Tall Tale unit in reading, the students have been practicing tall tale readers’ theatres.  In previous years, we would share these oral plays with fellow classes.  This year, my class decided to experiment with our webcam and an internet program called Skype.  Skype has allowed us to share performances with parents at home or work.

Here is a short video of our first Skype Tall Tale performance.  Check it out!

What do you think of this experiment?

Question:  What do Math and Exercise have in common?

Answer:  Once combined, they allow the students to calculate the horsepower their bodies generate!

Congratulations! You’re going to be featured in the next issue of Sports Illustrated. How does your bio read?

For which sport, game or athletic feat are you profiled? What details, factual or otherwise, would the sporting world learn about you?

An attempt to honor Abraham Lincoln by setting a new world record for the most people reading aloud fell short of the goal — and by a lot more than four score and seven.

Roughly 180,000 people read the Gettysburg Address in unison last month to mark Lincoln’s 200th birthday. Officials on Monday said that’s more than 40,000 shy of the mark recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records.

The participants were mostly schoolchildren across Illinois.

But organizers vow to try again in two years for the 150th anniversary of the Civil War’s start.

Next time, they’ll read the farewell address Lincoln gave in Springfield after he was elected president

Reading our Books From England! from Dan Lund on Vimeo.

A few days ago, we started to enjoy the novels from England.  The class loves all the books, but has really gotten into Friend or Foe!  Everyday the class is eager to hear about the unique situation that David and Tucky find themselves.

This video shows a short clip of the students enjoying each of the novels.  I’ve also included a little discussion that always seems to follow Friends or Foe – be it World War II, Churchill, Ack-Ack Stations, or their unique spelling of words and phrases!

—- I can’t wait to hear the reaction from my class to the videos and how Mrs. Larson and I seem to find just the right spot to stop reading each day!

Another math challenge that is very similiar to a problem we discussed in math class.  Good luck! – Mr. Lund

Flora had an average of 56% on her first 7 exams. What would she have to make on her eighth exam to obtain an average of 60% on 8 exams?

What traits of your parents are you inheriting?

Are you happy about that, or did you resolve never to be like Dad or Mom?

I’m excited to read the comments from the students and PARENTS on this question!

Check back in a few days for my comment!  :)

Hello Class!  You’ve been busy bloggers!

Take a moment and head over to our reading teacher’s blog – GIS Reading!

Right now, the Reading Blog has an interesting post about a poem and your five senses!

When you visit the blog, please leave a detailed comment for Mrs. Moore to enjoy!  You might also get yourself and our class recognized on the morning announcements!

Here is problem similar to one we’ve done in math class!

If 3 dice are thrown, in how many ways can we obtain a sum of 15?  Please include your list of results.

HINT:  A toss of 6,6,3, is different from a toss of 6,3,6!

Good Luck!  Every student that posts a correct answer with an explanation by Wednesday night gets a special award from Mr. Lund!
