Mr. Lund’s Blog – The Learning Never Ends In Fifth Grade!
“Our ET lesson this week is on Chain Reactions. A little divergent thinking for our fifth grade friends. Students sequentially can explain the steps in the chain reaction they created in ET to crush an acorn. Many colorful vocabulary and signal words can be included as they attempt to elaborate on how their chain reaction will actually work. The practice in sequencing is particularly helpful in preparing for the math extended response.” – Mrs. Brown
Mrs. Reed started ET with a video that caught our attention! What do you think about the cleverness of the video? What was your reaction to this chain reaction?
Students – Could you use some descriptive writing and figurative language to describe the chain reaction you drew in school?

I think that this video is very well organized. It is very abstract thinking. I think that I will try to create one of these strutures. At recess I am going to do dominos and try to see how many dominos I can put up to in a row. Last year me and my friends did alot of structures with dominos One time we thought of creating some kind of animal. So we thought it over and came up with a shark. It was so cool. We did so many of them that I think that all of us could of knocked 1 down. I even let my teacher knock one down. It went all the way to the end but then my friend Dalton had to drop his white board drop on all of them and it got distrood. I thought that we can always do another one so it’s not the end of the world. But I am going to take all the every day things and evensome simple machines to create my own chain reaction. What I’m looking for is one that will go all the way across my house and knock over my pile of toy freestyle cars. I am hoping for that but I dought it. I am going to try to gather all of my friends to try to create what I am going to call The Great Bambino. My favorite part of the video is at the end when the trunk closes and the honda sign comes down Ryan To. Mrs. Reed

Mr.Lund I love this video. Easton and I did a chain reaction. It goes like this one person throws a football and bounces off a guys afro. Then the football hits a guy in a hammock and falls off and scares a mouse. The mouse makes a girl scream and her scream brakes glass. A piece of glass falls off and hits a lawn mowers button. The lawn mower turns on and runs over the acorns. Thats my Easton’s and I chain reaction.

This chain reaction is very well put together. Keira and I made a chain reaction which went like this:The wind blows the apples of the apple tree which go up a hill and fall into a wagon. Next, the wagon hits a boulder and the apples go down a slope and crash on the acorns and pop them.
That is our chain reaction.

This video is very cool Mr. Lund and Mrs. Reed! I showed it to my Mom and Dad. Hopefully they will post something about it! I did a chain reaction of where a puppy falls into a pool then gets out and slips into a wagon full of pumpkins. The wagon then pushes a rock that keeps on rolling. The rock then flips onto a cats tail the cat freaks out and ran into a bird bath. The bird bath then falls onto a big stack of acorns stacked by Isabel the squirrel. I had lots of fun doing the chain reaction and thank you for sharing.

I also think that the video was very well put together and to think they could could make a video that looks very hard to me but easy for the people who made this. This is how Zakiya and I put our chain reaction together: First someone flicked the first domino, then the dominos on the table fell, next the last domino fell off the table and landed on 2 more dominos and the last domino that was hit hit a latch button that let go of a big rock and then hit the acorns. It seems easy and that’s how the people in the video probably started off when they made this chain reaction video. I hope one day I will get some abstract thinking and try to put together a hard chain reaction.

I think that the chain reaction was amazing! The guy that built the reaction must have taken almost 3 weeks to build. At first I thought that the chain reaction wasn’t a commercial. It was really cool.

Hey this is Ryan’s bro. I think that the video is cool.I will try to make one at home and I will put it so it’s a video. I think that is weird because all of it was to shut the trunk though. Mr.Rembusch
